Year 6 families invited to Guilsborough Academy’s virtual open evening

Parents and carers are invited to hear from Guilsborough Academy’s Principal Simon Frazer during the academy’s online open evening on Thursday, October 7, from 5pm to 8pm. They will also have the opportunity to hear from key members of staff and different departments through a series of videos.

Tours will take place at 4pm and 4.30pm on October 11, 12, 19, and 20 to give families a flavour of life at Guilsborough Academy.

Mr Frazer said: “We have taken the decision to hold our open evening virtually again this year to help keep local families, and our school community, safe.

“Our online open evening will showcase how the Academy’s excellent academic achievement comes from motivating students to engage in lessons, challenging their knowledge, and encouraging the fulfilment of their academic potential.

“We believe that learning should be enjoyable and challenging, and we offer a broad and well-balanced curriculum which gives students choices in their learning and helps them prepare for the next stage in their lives.

“Our school’s results consistently exceed national benchmarks, and our students go on to study in our successful Sixth Form and top universities across the country.”

He added: “We believe in nurturing individual strengths within our students and encourage them to explore a wide variety of interests within and beyond the school curriculum.”

Guilsborough Academy’s GCSE results are among the best in the county. This summer, more than 80 per cent of students gained a pass in English and maths while almost one in four attained a grade 7 or higher. Results in science continued to be extremely strong, a subject in which Guilsborough Academy is traditionally within the top 10 per cent of outcomes nationally.

Over the last year, the Academy has invested heavily in its facilities, with the opening of its new £1.4m business, economics, psychology and sociology centre. There has also been more than £100,000 invested in a new food and nutrition classroom and ICT classroom, and during October half term, a new £300,000 fitness suite, changing rooms, and toilets will open.

Academy tours, which will be conducted by senior members of staff, must be booked – visit book a place. To limit the numbers on site, the Academy asks that only one parent/carer attends with prospective new students.
